Basics for the Best Memorial Day Run

Saturday, May 24, 2014

This is a sanctioned event.  On Saturday, May 24th our chapter, along with San Antonio Chapter 23-3 and JBSA 5/6 Airman’s Council are sponsoring this ride from San Antonio and from Corpus Christi to the Frank Tejada VA home in Floresville, TX. (see attached flyer and info sheet).  Christopher “Soapbox” Dion, Chapter 23-3, did all the hard work on setting this up and making it work.  The VA Home management are very excited about this event and said the resident veterans (151 residents) are looking forward to our visit and conversation and of course, the motorcycles.  We will have riders from various motorcycle groups (PGR, MM’s, MC’s, LEO, etc.).   All motorcycles are welcome – please get the word out to your friends.  If all goes as planned we estimate a count between 300-500 motorcycles.  Shaun “Loose Wire” and Charlie Burchfield have arranged for JD’s Team Xtreme BBQ of San Antonio to provide food for this event and Charlie Burchfield will be taking the official photos.  JD’s Team Xtreme BBQ has been featured on the BBQ Pitmastersreality show (see video JD's Team Xtreme BBQ).  The Corpus Christi group will meet up with the San Antonio group and other riders at the Walmart in Floresville.  We will have a police/fire truck escort from there to the VA home.

If you don’t have any chapter plans that day we invite you to join us in Floresville.  We have asked for donations of NEW white socks, T-Shirts, toiletries and blankets, etc. for the veterans but this is not a requirement.  What is important is spending time with the resident veterans.   You can join the ride with 23-3 or 23-8 or you can meet us at the Floresville, TX rally point at Walmart.  We will leave from Walmart at approximately 10:40 am.   We expect this event to last maybe 2 to 3 hours at the most.
